Inspiration & Design
Living in a truly spectacular landscape with steep sea cliffs, rolling moorlands and the Cuillin hills, gives us much inspiration for our designs. The light from the ever-changing wide skies can alter the scenery in an instant and even on a misty day you can find a surprising amount of colour.
Besides being influenced by the big features of the landscape around us, we get a lot of our ideas from looking at it in close-up. We are fascinated by the colours and textures of mosses, lichens, bark, grasses, rocks and water surfaces. Many of our designs have their origin in observations of the little things close to the ground. We both love hill walking and the speed of plodding up steep slopes is ideal for discovering small specks of unexpected colour even among seemingly infertile rock.

However, not all our ideas are directly connected with our Skye surroundings. Sometimes we just really like a particular weave design or fall in love with a new colour available from our spinners. Sitting on a pedal-powered loom for hours creates the perfect space to think of ideas that will keep us busy for the next few decades.
